Why do we hide / from the words we wish / to speak; / from the words we wish / to hear? / When did humanity close its mouth / and choose only / to speak / through a screen? / With words so harsh, / a critic emerges within / and feeds on those / of the other / side. / We cower / from our mistakes, / from learning, / only working in the shadows, / so afraid / to allow the spotlight / to fall on us. / Why is the truth a weapon / and lies / a comfort? / Little white lies / whispered before the sun sets / and when it rises. / From dusk ‘till dawn, / people steal / instead of giving, / they carve a cave / in their soul / to hold their secrets. / Even I / am afraid of the truth, / of my words / and others’. / Now / I live in my head, / forgetting to follow my heart. / I let my thoughts grow restless. / They wish to leave my mouth / but I silence them, / only speaking through my pen / on paper. / My thumbs / on the keyboard, / and from / letter / to / letter, / worlds are built. / Images fly from / chapter / to / chapter, / as the stepping stones to a story / which follows / my heart. / My epilogue is completed, / and my thoughts emptied. / So I opened my mouth / ready to speak / my truth.

Descriptions:

This poem criticizes the reality of humanity where truth is unspoken, as people would rather tell lies than a real story. It is about the courage to speak up, despite everyone else's silence.
