Two Sides

A photograph of a small down in the Ontario countryside. A road leads up to an antiquated building with a clock tower. Small two storey houses line the street. In the foreground, there is a crosswalk with a traffic light.

Two Sides

Thank you to my constants:

The sun, the moon, the tides, time

A reminder that even in change, there is something to hold onto

Thank you to my light:

My mom, my friends, my goals, the stars

A reminder that even in darkness, there is hope

Thank you to my flaws:

My perfectionism, my inflexibility, my stubbornness, close mindedness

A reminder that even in achievement, there is humility

Thank you to my muses:

Nature, lyrics, culture, sentiments, passing strangers

A reminder that even in our fast paced life, there is art

Description:

“Two Sides” is a poem that is personal to the poet but can be applied to anyone. Sometimes, our minds get stuck in situations where we want to resist changes, give up, pick at our imperfections, or stagnation but this poem is a loving reminder that there is always another side– a brighter side that we can look to to help us through the dark times. When we lose sight of sides and our other perfectly lit forms of light, we may fall into a pit where darkness becomes all consuming.
