I heard the heart has 4 chambers

But I am from the 5th chamber that I feel I can reach for

When life moves too fast

I am from the chamber that holds

memories of

running under night skies

rolling on sun shone grass

The sound of

laughing with sore throats

I am from my elephantine sweet tooth

I am from the root canals at 6, 12, and 14

I am from laughing at my mother’s scowl

and music in the car

I am from savoring the pink and blue colors of the sky in fictional novels

only to look up and discover

they’re even more breathtaking in real life

I am from the epiphanies I get from

I am the mixture of self doubt and confident smiles

I find myself perplexing

But I’ve learned to accept that

This poem is inspired by the “Where I’m from” poem by George Ella Lyon and is a poem that expresses how personalities can be made up of mixed feelings, thoughts, hesitations, and happiness all at once. All personalities are layered and complex, which is why it is important to accept that.
