She loves me, she loves me not
The timing was all wrong
She left behind a life
To fend for his own
The only memory he has of her is her momentary touch
The spot turns icy as soon as she moves on
She loves me, she loves me not
As he grows older,
She finds her kindness and holds his hand
But he’s just another event on her calendar
Saturday nine o’clock
Monday seven o'clock
Her kindness was mistaken for sympathy
And he learned early
that sympathy is fleeting
Leaving behind a boy
To find himself on his own
He loses himself in the process
Surrounded by family at home
But home is where you feel the most belonging
Not where you lay your head every night
No events marked on Saturday
Or Monday
He’s a young adult now
He doesn’t pick the petals off flowers anymore wondering where her love lies
He knows she’s broken and her pieces are scattered across a sea of regrets
He’s now busy gathering his own puzzle pieces
Creating the bigger picture
He doesn’t believe in faith
His pathway is handcrafted
And he can’t wait to take the next step
Description:
This poem follows the story of a baby boy who loses his mom, a figure who is supposed to be a guiding light, not by death but by life itself. “Life happens,” they say, but nobody takes the initiative to wear a cape and make life a little less painful for the boy. He finds his way in the end after being in the dark for so long; he now is excited for his future and proud of the creaking steps it took him to climb this far.
